This
one may not actually by Grimsby staff - I suspect they may be Caistor Postmen
Older photos are particularly hard to come by, unless you visit the
Post Office archives in London. I do how ever have one or two more that
will be added once they have been scanned.
This
was taken in the 1960's Grimsby Sorting Office.
It looks like some sort of presentation going on. (It might have been the annual safe driving awards). If you contact me, I have a list of names on who is who in this photo. It came my way after some one in Wellington Street Grimsby, was clearing out their house. The photo was taken by the Grimsby Evening Telegraph.
Again
!, another old one from the Grimsby staff of years gone by
Some of todays senior staff tell me that the two in the long coats would
have been Christmas casuals. The date on one of their delivery pouches
is 1947, so I see the photo as being late 40s or 50s
This
one dates from the early 80's
In the early 80's Miss Della Dolan, (the Miss UK at the time) and also
a local resident opened the new Philatelic counter. The Philatelic counter
was accessed through the Victoria Street entrance, and sold all the normal
products for stamp collectors. The occaision also coinsided with the issue
of a special set of stamps showing the Humber Bridge. The staff in the
photo, are all dressed in period Postmens costumes, and were invloved in
the day
.

The Grimsby Post Office staff at the turn of the century.
Some time during 1998 or 99, a house in central Grimsby was being cleared out and this photo was unearthed. It was handed to one of our staff, who later handed it to me. During late 1999 the Grimsby Evening Telegraph reproduced it in one of their "Days Gone" supplements. I understand it was taken at the old Grimsby football ground, although the date is a little uncertain.
