In 1937 John Ronald Reuel Tolkein wrote The Hobbit - a fantasy story of Elves, Dwarves, Wizards, Dragons and er ... Hobbits. Recently the follow up to this children's story, The Lord of the Rings (published in 1954) was voted Book of the Century with the Hobbit not too far down the list.
