Peace One Day 2005

Bromley Peace Council held the event at Community House, Bromley to mark

United Nations Global Cease Fire Day on Sept 21st.

There was music from Global Fusion, poems, a yoga demonstration, stalls representing different organisations including Friends of the Earth, the Green Party ,Fairtrade, Amnesty International, CND, and The Therapy Centre and speakers from the UN, Bromley Refugee Network, Stop The War Coalition, Orpington Co-councelling Group, Maharaji Foundation and Bromley Trade Union Council. There was also an exhibition to mark the 60th Anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

This was an opportunity for these groups to network and share their ideals about how to work for world and personal peace.

This event was held for the first time last year and will continue each September 21st. It is hoped that more organisations will become involved.

Peace One Day is an organisation set up by Jeremy Gilley, a film maker who has met many heads of government and key members of the UN and with them has worked to establish Sept 21st as a day of peace and global cease fire. Events have been held all over the world and involved many young people. [ www.peaceoneday.org]
