Grampian Mountains

Heading along the A939 towards Ballater, the road climbs quite steeply after Tornahaish and then levels off for a few miles. Travelling along this flatter stretch, I was compelled to make a number of stops to admire, and photograph, the scenery as I passed through the Grampian Mountains.

At the first stop, I took these shots just before some rain swept in. Despite being mid June, it was very cold up in the mountains, something I was not fully prepared for!

I made my second stop only a mile or so further along the A939. There was still some rain about, and it was still cold.

The third stop I made was, again, only another mile or so from the second. The rain had stopped, for now, and there was some brightness appearing through the clouds.

After this stop I continued my drive towards Ballater. The road starts a steep descent, becoming a single track road for a number few miles as it passes through Glen Gairn.
