Craigievar Castle, Glen Muick, etc. |

Saturday, June 24, 2000 Not a particularly bright morning, and looking like it might get wet later on, but I wanted to get out and about nonetheless. I looked at the road atlas and decided to head to Craigievar Castle and to make my way to Glen Muick. I started my journey by following the B9077 from Aberdeen along South Deeside until I reached Crathes where I joined the main A93 Braemar road. I continued along the A93 until Banchory where I turned onto the A980 which would take me to Craigievar Castle. After leaving Craigievar Castle I continued along the A980 until it meets the A944 near Alford. I turned onto the A944 heading in a north westerly direction until I reached the junction with the A97 near Mossat and turned onto this road. The A97 was to take me to the A944 once again close to Heugh-head. Back on the A944, I continued driving along this road until Colnabaichin where I joined the A939 which would take me up through the Grampian Mountains. I did not stop to take any photographs during this stage, it was wet and not very encouraging. Along the A939 heading towards Ballater, the road climbs quite steeply through the Grampian Mountains. I stopped a number of times along here to take photographs of the views of the Grampian Mountains from the higher position. I followed the "main" A939 through Glen Gairn, some of which was single track road, and eventually joining the A93 that was to take me to Ballater. At Ballater I followed the B976 until the junction with an unclassified, and mostly a single track road leading up Glen Muick. After my journey up Glen Muick, I headed back to Ballater and returned to the A93 and made my return journey to Aberdeen. |
