My name is Wendy Taylor. I live in Popley, Basingstoke with my husband Allan, two manic cats
called Sox and Nix and a tankful of fantailed goldfish. |
Until a couple of years ago, I was a member of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force, No 4624 [County of
Oxford] Movements Squadron RauxAF based at RAF Brize Norton. During my service with
the RauxAF, I worked as part of a team loading and unloading aircraft such as Hercules,
VC10's and Tristars. I also had the most pleasant tasks of working behind the scenes
at the International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford for a few years, which included working
with Concord. I was also in a mixed team represented my Squadron at the International
Military skills competition in Muchengladbak (IMM) in
Germany.
What do I do?
I have worked at Reading
University in the Department of Physics
since May 1985. I started in the department as a trainee
Electronics Engineer and studied at Reading Technical College to obtain a BTEC Higher
National Diploma.
Over the years I have progressed from analogue through
digital electronics through to the various aspects of computers and networking to
building and setting-up a networked computer from scratch.
I set-up PC operating systems/applications and configure
networking facilities on users' PC's.
Along side this, showing users how to use their PC applications, email and dealing
with general PC glitches such as my PC ran out hard disk space,
or my PC/network won't work/keeps crashing etc.
As part of the Health and Safety at Work Act "six
pack", introduced in 1992, I am the department's Display
Screen Equipment Assessor, keeping records of DSE User's within the department.
Over the last year, I have been creating Web pages as a self
teaching exercise and along with a colleague, we have been redesigning the Physics Web site. We have been using FrontPage
for this project.
