Church Information

St.Saviour's Church has been proclaiming the gospel and maintaining its catholic worship within the Church of England since it opened in July 1902. Today the church continues to worship God, teach the Christian faith and present the challenges of God's kingdom.

Our church is a place of prayer where all can find a welcome and where the sacraments are celebrated and funerals can take place. Unfortunately, the building has to be kept locked, but is open for private prayer before and after the published service times.

St.Saviour's is one of five parish churches in Scarborough serving the town's population of 44,540. The population of St.Saviour's parish is 7,480, most of whom live in small terraced housing in the north eastern quater of the town. The church also has strong links with St.Martin's Church of England ( Aided ) Primary School and with Gladstone Road Primary School which is almost opposite the church.

We also have links with the Community of the Resurrection at Mirfield ( an Anglican religious order for men ); the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham in Norfolk, England and the Daughters of Mary and Joseph ( an international Roman Catholic religious community for women ). The church also supports the work of Forward in Faith.

Next year we will be preparing to celebrate our first centenary. The foundation stone was laid in December 1901 and the church was formally opened in July 1902. We hope to celebrate the centenary of both these dates.
