Sun, drinks and hot sun - dangersRum is the Caribbean drink. There are almost as many rums in the West Indies as their are malt whiskies in Scotland, and there is an amazing variety of strength, colour and quality. The finest rums are best drunk on the rocks, but if you want to capture a bit of the Caribbean spirit, have a couple of rum punches.

To make Plantation Rum Punch, thoroughly mix three ounces of rum, with one ounce of lime juice and one teaspoon of honey, then pour
over crushed ice, and add a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg. Most hotels and bars also offer a wide range of cocktails both alcoholic, usually very strong, and non-alcoholic. The good local beer, drunk cold and from the bottle, is the most popular drink, and wine, where available, is often expensive because of taxes, and the choice is limited. Tap water is safe to drink as are ice cubes made from it. Mineral and bottled water is widely available, as are soft drinks.

Note: While many of the restaurants do offer excellent service, time does not always have the same urgency as it does back home, and why should it after all, as you are on holiday. Relax, enjoy a drink, the company and the surroundings and do not worry if things take just a little longer, the wait is generally worth it.
