St. Vincent and the Grenadines is an independent republic within the Commonwealth. The British Queen is head of state and is represented on the island by the Governor General. There is a single legislative chamber, the House of Assembly, consisting of both elected representatives and senators appointed by the Governor General.
The Prime Minister is the leader of the majority party, and leads the Government. St Vincent is a member of the East Caribbean Supreme Court with a high court and appeals court, with recourse to the Privy Council as the final court of appeal.
