Joyful Manifesto

Springing from the ashes of a jazz-funk project, joy have now taken a more leftfield angle on their groove and dispensed with all musical pleasantries. no tired rip-offs, no formulaic jazz doodlings, the joy sound is as honest as it is funky.

From around the land (london to manchester) and currently based in birmingham, joy are as british as queuing and as sharp as a pin which must surely now burst the bubble of soul-less slush-swing that dribbles down the chart walls week-in, week-out.

Joy have appreciated their idols, shamed their pretenders and now join under a soul-funk umbrella to wait out the commercial rain.

Fronted by the honey-sweet vocals of sanjay majmudar, the resident funky little indian, backed by some of the most on-the-bollock two-stepping phat bass known to space-kind and filled to the sparkling brim with urban vibes, fluttering flute, breakbeat drumming and hooks to hang a caravan off, this is new world funk, this is outer-space-soul, this is joy.

Joy have inspired and excited students, yokels and locals alike through their dynamic live stage shows, which are twice as nice as anything previously attempted with a fender rhodes and a few yards of cable flex.

Joy can be found on the lips and minds of a generation wanting more bounce to their ounce and more musicianship to their funk. Joy will not go away. Joy are here for a reason- to serve soul food to the starving masses.

Residencies at birmingham england's kookiest pre-club bars; circo, medicine bar and the gallery mean a radiant crowd of party people and sunshine smiles can regularly get their funk-fix outside of the capital.

It's new, it's hard as nails, but smooth as butter. it's a testimony to the coming-of-age of a new asian-fronted brand of pop. contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as being overjoyed. issac hayes said it first; we are joy, now show us the money.

Joy would like to point out that joy products are designed to bring pleasure to the workplace, living room, nightclub or personal stereo only for the recommended time. joy accept no responsibility for the subsequent addiction to funky sounds nor any other soul substance following excessive listening. we hope that our home-grown product will find a place in everybody's heart and look forward to what promises to be a very successful xmas and a funky new year. peace and out, tom (on behalf of joy)
