The PXL 2000
Pixelvision Video Camera (late 1980's)

The Critics say: '...produces an image that looks sort of what black and white super 8 film might look like if it was left in the middle of a busy street for an afternoon and then run through a projector. The overall effect is grainy, with lots of dropout and a weird, almost slow-motion apperance.' (Kyle Cassidy)

The Mind says: Bizarre US toy from Fisher Price. The camera uses an ordinary 90min audio tape to produce 5mins of audio & visual footage. Died out due to being mistakenly marketed to children, but later embraced by amateur film makers lucky enough to get their hands on the now-rare cameras. Don't try to get one in Britain. You can't.

Useless fact: In his 1994 film 'Nadja', director Michael Almereyda used a Pixelvision camera to represent a vampires-eye view of the world.
