Resources for study

Although Luke has a lot more in common with the other Synoptic Gospels (Mark and Matthew), it's interesting that he has some shared territory with John too! Both Luke and John mention
  • Mary and Martha
  • Annas the high priest
  • Judas the disciple (not Judas Iscariot, the other one)
  • Details of Jerusalem and the Temple
  • Satan's involvement in the betrayal of Jesus
  • Malchus' right ear
  • Pilate's three declarations that Jesus was innocent

So did Luke read John? Did John use Luke? Probably not; there isn't enough of a correspondence for that to be credible. But they may well have used some of the same sources, or talked to some of the same people!
