O ne way of understanding Luke better is to compare his writing with the other Synoptics. (The `synoptic' gospels are Matthew, Mark and Luke - so called because they share a very similar viewpoint. `Synoptic' roughly means `looking through the same eyes', `taking the same general view'.)
