Deaths J. E. Couperthwaite

James E. Couperthwaite, 74 of 37 E. Jackson St., died at his home Monday morning after a lingering illness.
He was born in Old Cumnock, Scotland, April 7 1891 and has been a Painesville resident since 1932. Mr Couperthwaite was a mechanic and inspector at Midland-Ross, IRC Fibers Division, retiring in 1961. He married the former Miss Mae Wilcox on March 21, 1922 in Cleveland.
A World 1 veteran, Mr Couperthwaite served in the 37th Division. He was the recipient of two medals, one for the Battle of Argonne, and the other for the Battle of Verdun. He also had a record for the longest tour of any driver in the division, eight days and 2,000 miles as a driver for Brig. Gen. Charles X. Zimerman.
Mr Couperthwaite was a member of Brakeman - King Post 336, Americam Legion. He was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his widow; a son, James of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Mrs Betty McFarland of North Madison; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and a sister Mrs Elizabeth Blair of Kimball, Minn.
