The bible tells us to be good
In quite peculiar ways
Its laws are strange and primitive
Unsuited to these days
Yet fundamentalists insist
It's true on every count,
That it's the word of god himself -
Of wisdom the sole fount.
I find it rather hard to take
When all is said and done -
The cruelty, the ignorance,
The thorough lack of fun!
God seems to be a narrow chap
Obsessed with sex and duty.
He wants us all to worship him
And kiss his ghostly booty.
Creator of the universe?
Unchanging source of power?
The force that moves the sun and stars?
The maker of the flower?
Give it a rest! It's all a hoax,
Deceitful and unkind -
God and the devil both exist
Entirely in the mind.
Theology's a whopping lie,
An intellectual fake.
Relgion is the noise that's made
When human spirits break!
