"HUGS" is our friendly Unicorn and his name is derived from an anagram of our group's initials. It also represents our desire to offer each other our mutual support and friendship.

Unicorn Self Help Group grew from Unicorn Ataxia Group which was founded in 1989 by sufferers of that condition. The Unicorn Ataxia Group was never solely for the benefit of sufferers of Ataxia and has many members and friends whose lives have been touched by other neurological conditions.

As Unicorns are rarely seen, our mascot could also represent to relative rarity of the neurological conditions that are suffered by our members.
