The command you want is not available with the version of DOS you are using.
The command may have been deleted to save space.
You may not have the PATH variable set correctly.
If you are using a boot disk you may not have transferred the required command.
In the first case the best option is to use a version of DOS which does
have the command.
To fix the second and fourth problem simply copy across the external commands from
the same version of DOS.
The third can be fixed by setting the path variable in your AUTOEXEC.BAT
file (or temporarily from the command line). To do this you add
the line:
PATH C:\DOS
Assuming that your DOS directory is DOS.
If you are using Windows 9x many DOS commands are missing, look in the
\TOOLS\OLDMSDOS directory of your CD-ROM. You may find what you want there,
